Just an idea, since why not and should assist to guarantee future availability etc? ;)

I don't known maybe we could at least put some tag when some projects tested against this are released (python-neo, spikeinterface). Andrew, Julia ?

I agree that having registered versions of the datasets would make sense. I would probably go for having one registered repo version for each major python-neo release as this is the project using most of the repository content here.
