Scheduled service maintenance on November 22

On Friday, November 22, 2024, between 06:00 CET and 18:00 CET, GIN services will undergo planned maintenance. Extended service interruptions should be expected. We will try to keep downtimes to a minimum, but recommend that users avoid critical tasks, large data uploads, or DOI requests during this time.

We apologize for any inconvenience.

Setup: WinGIN Windows GUI client

WinGIN is a graphical user interface built for Windows 7, 8, and 10 for managing data repositories, whether they are stored on the public GIN service or a self hosted GIN instance. The interface is a frontend to the GIN Command Line Interface (GIN-CLI).

Download and installation

  1. Download both WinGIN-install.exe and Setup.msi to a local directory.
  2. Run (double click) WinGIN-install.exe and follow the steps.
  3. At the end of the installation, you will be asked to install Dokan. This is required for the application to work.
    • If Dokan is already installed, you may skip this step by either unchecking the checkbox or cancelling the Dokan (un)install window that will appear.
  4. Launch WinGIN and wait for it to download and extract GIN CLI. This will only happen on first launch after a new installation.

Usage

To start WinGIN, click the new GinClientApp icon in the start menu. You will be prompted to log in using your GIN website credentials. While WinGIN is running, a GIN icon will remain in your system tray. You can click this icon to bring up the main interface, exit the application, and perform basic upload and download tasks.

Source code

Like all GIN software (and G-Node projects), WinGIN is open source software licensed under the BSD 3-Clause License. The source code along with build instructions can be found on GitHub at https://github.com/G-Node/WinGIN
